Tummy Tuck: Losing Weight
If you’re getting just a tummy tuck, this will do little regarding weight loss. Many patients lose only 3–6 pounds from the excess skin removed, with the average around five pounds. While the weight loss is insignificant, the loss of inches is what many patients experience the most. It’s not uncommon for patients to go down several sizes and lose several inches in their waist, allowing them to fit better in their clothes.
Some patients feel inspired to eat better and exercise more, and that’s when they experience the most weight loss. However, the tummy tuck procedure itself does not lead to weight loss.
Many people have a tummy tuck and liposuction done at the same time. In these cases, it’s possible to lose a significant amount of weight.
When it comes to plastic surgery, keep in mind that weight loss should not always be the end goal. A tummy tuck is not specifically a weight loss procedure. It works to contour your stomach area so it can help you look and feel better about yourself, even if you don’t lose a lot of weight.
