Mommy Makeover… Is It For Me?

Many women have trouble accepting changes to their bodies after childbirth. “Mommy Makeovers” are quickly becoming the “go to” for young mothers who wish to regain their pre-mommy bodies. Here’s a few tips that may be helpful in deciding if a Mommy Makeover is right for you.

Breast Augmentation

The biggest complaint that women have a few months after childbirth is commonly that their breasts appear smaller and look “saggy” not only as a result of breastfeeding, but also because of the normal weight gain/loss associated with pregnancy. Having a breast augmentation is often one procedure performed during a mommy makeover. One factor you will have to consider is the type of implant you will have with your breast augmentation. There are essentially two types of implants, most are filled with either silicone gel or a saline water solution. Speaking to your Plastic Surgeon will help you identify the type of implant that is best for you.

Another procedure often associated with mommy makeovers is abdominoplasty, also known as tummy tucks. Flabby abdomens, stretched out muscles and stretch marks continue to make tummy tucks a tempting option for new moms. Skin and fat are removed from the top of the pubic hairline to the belly button. Abdominal muscles are tightened and any stretch marks that were below the belly button disappear.

Breast Reduction

Some women may include a breast reduction as part of their mommy makeover. Many women turn to breast reduction because after weight gain due to the pregnancy, combined with sagginess, it has left their breasts heavier, many times causing neck and back pain.

Fat, tissue and skin are removed, then the breasts are reshaped during a reduction. The type of reduction will be discussed with you at your consultation, as every case is unique and requires a different approach.

Liposuction is another very common procedure performed when having a mommy makeover and can solve a lot of issues that women complain about after they’ve had children.

Sagging arms, love handles and extra fat on their breasts under the armpits all are issues that women seek an answer for, as dieting just doesn’t solve these issues. Liposuction uses suction to remove fatty deposits from trouble spots. Liposuction breaks up and removes fatty tissue from the stubborn areas that are resistant to dieting.
