28 Feb Tummy Tuck Scarring: What Should I Expect?
Many women shy away from getting a Tummy Tuck because of the scars. This fear can be dismissed because of the fact that the incisions can be surgically placed so that they are not noticeable. Even when a bikini is worn, the scar will be virtually undetectable. All of this does, however, does depend on your surgeon, his experience, and his surgical technique. And we’d invite you to learn more about Dr. John Park.
Because of the wide array of surgeons, there is a wide variation in scar placement for this procedure. The truth is, there are very concrete steps that a surgeon can use to ensure a scar is well placed (and thin enough) to allow the patient to wear a bikini after having a tummy tuck.
Tummy Tuck Surgery Scarring
To summarize the procedure as it relates to scarring, a full tummy tuck will require two incision locations to tighten the stomach muscles and remove the excess skin. Both incision areas (and their objectives and concerns) are:
1. The horizontal tummy tuck incision to remove stretch marks and excess skin: Should be placed well below panty line.
2. The Belly Button tummy tuck incision to secure belly button in place: Should leave the belly button with a natural shape
Both of these tummy tuck incisions can be made with great care so that wearing a bikini without drawing attention to the scar can be possible. However, scarring concerns should be discussed both during your consultation AND on the morning of your actual surgery. Make your private consultation and begin your journey to a new you.
