Liposuction vs Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) Explained
Liposuction is a great way to get rid of excess fat in many areas of the body. In fact, liposuction serves as the gold standard for the removal of fat from various problem areas of the body such as the thighs, abdomen, waist and neck. Liposuction is a very powerful tool used in contouring the body and providing a more pleasing shape.
However, liposuction alone will not get rid of stretch marks, excess skin or any scars left from previous surgeries. A tummy tuck will remove most stretch marks, excess skin and scars, and may also get rid of fat. A tummy tuck can also bring together abdominal muscles that may have separated during pregnancy.
Combining Liposuction and Tummy Tuck
In many cases, both a tummy tuck and liposuction work well together to create the desired outcome. Many surgeons prefer to liposuction the entire abdominal wall to reduce the fat thickness throughout, followed by repairing and tightening the muscles of the abdomen. Finally, the excess skin is removed and re-contoured, resulting in a flat, contoured stomach.
