The idea of a tummy tuck at John Park MD Plastic surgery can be very exciting for patients. It’s a way to get the tone, taut abdomen you want finally. When people think of a tummy tuck, they usually just think of the removal of skin and fat from the midsection transforming it into a sleek, flat stomach. But what most fail to think about is the aspect of their belly button and how a tummy tuck procedure might impact it. We have never really had to think about our belly button before, it’s just always been there; however, depending on the amount of skin that needs to be removed, the appearance of your belly button may be altered.
Belly Button Reconstruction
During a traditional tummy tuck, a small incision is made around the belly button to help release it from surrounding skin. This allows Newport Beach plastic surgeon, Dr. John Park, to pull the remaining skin following excision tightly to ensure the stomach is flat. The belly button is then repositioned on the stomach and made to appear as natural as possible.
For some patients, it is possible to use their same navel after re-draping the remaining skin over the midsection. A new opening is created and the original belly button is stitched into place. However, in some instances, a completely new belly button must be reconstructed to help keep it looking natural. When large amounts of skin are removed, the original belly button can appear almost too large for the newly contoured abdominal region.
The Mini Exception
During a mini tummy tuck, only a small amount of skin and fat needs to be removed and it is usually located below the navel. It is much less invasive and does not require the repositioning of the belly button.
Regardless of which belly button placement method is necessary for your particular tummy tuck treatment, when performed by a skilled surgeon such as Dr. Park, your belly button will heal nicely and flatter your abdominal results.
