What Is The Ideal Age For A Breast Lift? | Dr. John Park, Newport Beach

Many women young and old consider breast lift surgery to help enhance their breast contour by raising sagging breasts. Other women who are born with irregular nipples that point downward elect to have breast lift surgery to improve the shape and position of the breasts as well as the areolas. Regardless of your reasons for considering surgery, a breast lift from John Park MD Plastic Surgery can restore your breasts to their natural position or correct hereditary factors that are causing you to be self-conscious.

What Causes Breasts To Sag?

Sagging breasts can occur for a variety of reasons. One of the main reasons is simply because of the natural aging process. With age, breast skin begins to thin out and lose its elasticity. This is primarily because collagen production slows down as we age. Collagen is the protein that keeps skin firm and healthy. Breasts also begin to sag due to pregnancy, breastfeeding and weight fluctuations. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the breasts become engorged with milk causing the breast skin to stretch. Once breastfeeding has ceased, the breast skin is often unable to retract back entirely because it has lost its elasticity. With weight fluctuations a similar process happens only instead of milk, the breasts increase in size with fatty breast tissue. Sometimes, in these instances, Newport Beach plastic surgeon Dr. John Park will recommend adding breast implants to a breast lift to help restore volume to overly deflated breasts.

When Should I Get A Breast Lift?

There’s no perfect age for getting a breast lift as all women are different and develop at different rates. Breasts should be completely developed before any breast enhancement is performed. Sometimes that isn’t until a woman is well into her 20s.

It’s advised that you wait to have a breast lift until you have reached a stable weight. If you have a breast lift and then experience weight fluctuations, you run the risk of compromising your results. You should be at or near your ideal weight, and ideally, finished having children.

A breast lift is easily able to be combined with other surgeries, such as breast augmentation or breast reduction, to obtain optimum results. All procedures are customized for each individual patient to ensure they get the perky, younger-looking breasts they’re after.
